The ORIGINAL LOVE STORY

B.C.

With dreams of making his fortune in a land called “Indian Territory,” B.C. Clark arrived in Purcell in 1892 at the age of 23.

A few days after his arrival, B.C. met a young woman named Flora Edwards who was working in the post office.

Although the mail only came once a day, rumor has it that B.C. would go to the post office multiple times a day to “check the mail.”

Flora

In 1892, while working in the post office in Purcell, Indian Territory, Flora met a young gentleman who was new to town and desperate for a bit of help.

He introduced himself as B.C. Clark, and she kindly loaned him a dollar and a stamp.

Out of that initial meeting blossomed a friendship that led to a two-year courtship. In 1894, they were married.

A letter from B.C. to Flora

Dear Flora Edwards,

May I have the exquisite pleasure of accompanying you to church Sunday night April 22, 1894.

Very Respectfully,
B.C. Clark

PS: If it meets with your approbation, I will call early and stay late.
