Few American home décor brands are as iconic as MacKenzie-Childs. Best known for their distinctive designs that combine vibrant colors and pattern-on-pattern surface decoration to create a fresh, original aesthetic, MacKenzie-Childs can probably be best described as whimsy tradition with a twist. The dizzying display of colors and hand-painted patterns are pieces of art, design fantasies, in the form of everyday home décor products.
For more than 35 years, the brand’s gifted designers and artisans have created beautiful, original products that add joy and color to homes great and small. And just as diverse as its design palette is the ever growing fan-base of MacKenzie-Childs. From collectors’ wish lists to bridal registries, MacKenzie-Childs remains one of the most sought-after brands in the home décor world.
And now MacKenzie-Childs is exclusively available in our Life:Style Department at Classen Curve. We are honored and humbled to be among the few distinctive fine retailers in the United States to be chosen to carry these wonderful, handcrafted MacKenzie-Childs products.
From furniture to tableware, from garden decor to tea sets, MacKenzie-Childs designs are alive with individuality. Each piece is created by artisans that are dedicated to deliver the unexpected, while continuing to underscore the brand’s iconic patterns and aesthetic. It’s what makes every MacKenzie-Childs creation an original. The MacKenzie-Childs fairy-tale creations are born at their in-house design studio in upstate New York overlooking Cayuga Lake by artisans that are the best in their craft. Each handcrafted piece has a unique signature of its own and no two pieces are identical. The artisan’s stamp or mark shows his or her individual contribution to each piece.
Despite its amazing popularity, the brand never lost its sense of happiness, whimsy or feeling of intimacy with its artisans and customers. That’s likely due to the fact that even though the company scaled up over the years, it firmly remained rooted in its craftsman heritage. The company started in 1983 in a small pottery studio in the basement of a former dormitory for an all-girls prep school. Today, its production studio is located in the barn, where its pottery and furnishings are handmade and hand-painted by 50 talented artisans trained in age-old crafts.
From seasonal collections to their original tableware, furniture, home and garden accessories, MacKenzie-Childs brings joy. Perhaps the most recognizable collection is the MacKenzie-Childs Courtly Check pattern element that, since it was first introduced in the 1980s, has since become the iconic design of the brand. Hand-painted checks create the shining, high-contrast gloss that you can find on on vases, cups, tabletops, and even furniture fabric, and over the years it has taken on a range of limited edition variations. It’s lush. It’s layered. It’s a bit experimental, and yet it remains timeless.
This spring MacKenzie-Childs was inspired by creativity and all the ways that you show it: in how you set a table, arrange flowers in a vase or even accessorize your favorite little black dress. In fact, their theme for spring 2021 is Living Artfully. And that is certainly something we believe in. This collection celebrates how creativity infuses our lives, especially within the home.
