Invisible to the naked eye, the De Beers Forevermark inscription includes the Forevermark icon and a unique number. The inscription is 1/20th of a micron deep – 1/5,000th the depth of a human hair – and is placed on the table facet of the diamond, using confidential, proprietary technology.

Beyond the 4Cs of Diamonds
Each diamond is individually selected for its color, clarity, cut, and carat weight, but the De Beers Forevermark process goes beyond the standard diamond grading. A standard grading report only tells part of a diamond’s story as the 4Cs are only four of the many characteristics of a diamond. A De Beers Forevermark diamond is judged by many additional factors. Since every diamond is as unique as a snowflake, even two diamonds with the same 4Cs grade may not be the same and therefore not equally beautiful.
To be considered to be a De Beers Forevermark diamond, the rough diamond itself must be of superior quality even before it is cut and polished. Once a diamond arrives at the De Beers Group Institute of Diamonds to be evaluated, the diamond’s polish must have a high degree of transparency to reflect and refract light. The diamond’s cut must be precise enough to result in both outstanding symmetry and durability.
Only those diamonds that meet all the fundamental steps of their rigorous selection process earn the De Beers Forevermark inscription, which consists of the exclusive Forevermark icon and a unique identification number.
